Betty Wakefield Rogers, 87, of Florence, SC passed away on Friday, August 22nd, 2025.
Betty was born in Bebington, England, the daughter and only child to the late William and Elizabeth Wakefield.
She was the beloved wife of the late Elbert Rogers, and a much-loved Mother, Nana, and friend.
Betty met her late husband, US Airforce Veteran, Elbert while he was stationed at Sealand Airforce base in North Whales. They were married on January 9th, 1958 and celebrated 64 years of marriage before his death. After the birth of their first child, a daughter Jane, they moved to South Carolina and settled in Florence where they had a son William.
She found the adjustment to the United States a bit hard at first. When her husband would hear a woman with a British accent, he was quick to connect them with Betty, and with his help she met many British ladies while living in Florence that became lifelong friends.
She grew to love the United States while still holding strong to her English roots..
After many years, Betty retired from Vulcraft. She and her husband moved to Manning, SC to enjoy retirement at the lake and made many friends with other retirees from all over the U.S.
Betty never met a stranger and especially loved making connections with those that immigrated to the United States.
She was an avid reader and self-taught quilter, winning awards for her works and donated quilts she made to retirement communities where they could be enjoyed.
She enjoyed a good cup of English tea, fellowship with her British club, and a heated political debate.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Jane Spring Skinner.
She is survived by her son WIlliam Rogers (Lynette), grandchildren Lauren Kremidas (Nick), Sarah Yarborough (Burnes), Jonathan Poon (Ashley), and great grandchildren Harper, Emmerson, Elijah Yarborough and Harvey Poon.
The family will receive friends and family Monday, August 25, 2025 at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel from 1:00-2:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM.
Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Florence Presbyterian Community and McLeod Hospice House for their care, love, and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a charity of one's choice and/or to enjoy a cup of English tea and to strike up a conversation with a stranger.
