Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Elrod Hicks, 81, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013, at the McLeod Hospice House after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Hicks was born on June 16, 1932, in Chattanooga, TN, a daughter of the late Thomas Everett Elrod and Dorothy Harmon Elrod. She was a legal secretary for eighteen years in Laurens, SC. Mrs. Hicks was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Laurens, SC and sang in the choir for forty years.When she moved to Florence, she attended Mary Alice Ingram Chapel at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee and was also a member of the choir as long as her health allowed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas Edward Elrod and Billy Aldean Elrod; and a sister, Betty Rose Elrod Turner. Surviving are her loving husband of fifty-eight years, James E. Hicks, Jr.; her daughters, Karen (Hal) Cottle of Cedartown, GA, Kim (Richard) Skipper of Florence, and Karla (Jim) Johnson of Waynesboro, GA; and her grandchildren, Chris Cottle, Michael Cottle, Philip Skipper, Anna Grace Skipper, Jenny Johnson and Jay Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Mary Alice Ingram Chapel at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee. Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
