Audrey Gray Williams Spivey

Jan 14, 1929 — Oct 27, 2026

Florence

Audrey Gray Williams Spivey died peacefully on October 27, 2026, at the age of 97. Her life was defined by love and devotion to her family.

She was born January 14, 1929, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She learned very early in life about hard work and service as her mother was in an accident that limited her ability to take care of their family. Audrey took care of her younger brother, mother and father even though she was just a child. She grew from this to be a caring mother, doting grandmother and attentive wife and friend. Her warmth, kindness and grace were evident to all that knew her. Her family meant the world to her and was her greatest joy.

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Hattie and Clyde Gray.

Her survivors include her husband, Rudy Spivey; her children, George Brent Williams (Marva) and Bonnie Williams Gregg (Maxcy); her brother, Bill Gray (Bonnie); her grandchildren, Jennette Gore (Kyle) and Brooke Newell (Brock); and her five great-granddaughters, Maddie Rose Gore, Emma Kate Gore, Eastin Newell, Brentley Newell, and Greer Newell.

Audrey was a devoted “Granny” who loved cooking, gardening, and traveling. She was a skilled homemaker who delighted in an immaculate home, a lovingly prepared meal, and perfectly done laundry. She loved planning mountain and beach trips for her family.

A longtime member of Florence First Baptist Church, Audrey made sure her family attended regularly before later joining Greenwood Baptist Church. When she could no longer attend services in person, she looked forward to visits from her pastor, Johnny McDaniel, and other members of the congregation.

These visits, along with the care of five “earthly angels”—Maggie Powers, Carolyn Reed, Traci Jeffords, Regina Brown, and Pam Jackson—brightened her days and eased her daily life. She was deeply grateful for her caregivers’ dedication and considered them part of her family.

Though Audrey lived a long and beautiful life of 97 years, her loss leaves a deep void in the hearts of her family and friends. Through her, God blessed them with a beautiful example of His love, and they cherish the precious memories of their time together.

A service honoring Mrs. Spivey will take place Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 am at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 100 Cherokee Road, Florence South Carolina. The family will visit with guests after the service.
