Arthur Carlie Gregg

Arthur Carlie Gregg, Sr. Effingham, SC Arthur Carlie Gregg, Sr., 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, October 17, 2014 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Mr. Gregg was born in Effingham, SC a son of the late Charlie Gregg and Zola Ward Gregg. He was a member of Effingham Presbyterian Church, where he previously served as a Deacon. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the South Pacific and Japan. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and was a lifelong member of Brockington and Pinewood Hunt Club, and a Mason. He was a lifetime farmer and retired from the SC Highway Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Weatherly Gregg; brothers, Henry, Charles, Boyd Gregg; sisters, Alma Scott, Janie Hudson, Ruth Leavitt and Josephine Lawhon. Surviving are a son, Arthur “Carlie” (Fern) Gregg, Jr. of Effingham; daughter, Susan C. Gregg of the home; sister, Mary Jean Gregg Weatherly of Effingham; Stephen (Marcia) Leavitt of Effingham and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
