Annie Margaret “Bebe” Briggs Huggins, 91, passed away peacefully at the McLeod Hospice House of Florence on Friday, May 17, 2019. She was born on July 3, 1927 to the late James R. and Ruth Briggs Briggs of Summerton, SC.Bebe met her future husband of more than 50 years, the late Harry Legette Huggins, while she was a student at the McLeod School of Nursing in Florence.In the years that followed, she worked as a nurse, had two sons, and began a new career at the Florence Courthouse as a legal secretary and office manager for the Master of Equity and, later for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of SC until her retirement at age 60.She was a devoted Episcopalian and participated in various activities at St. John Episcopal Church, where she, her husband, and sons were members. Bebe had deep roots in her Low Country heritage.She was proud of her ancestors, who included a famous Revolutionary War General, several SC Governors, and the founder of the Citadel.But mostly, she loved visiting family there, where food, fun, and music prevailed. A talented decorator, Bebe enjoyed collecting antiques and beautiful items for her home.She was skilled at needlework, gardening, and cooking.She read hundreds of books. Bebe is survived by the children she adored, Harry L. (Linda) Huggins, Jr. and T. Bryant “Bryan” (Charlotte) Huggins, all of Florence; grandchildren, Joshua T. Huggins of San Diego, CA, Gretchen F. Huggins, Kathryn S. Huggins, and Ryan (Lauren) Huggins, all of Florence; great-grandsons, Gaven and Gage Norton of Florence; and many nieces and nephews. The family sends a very special thank you to John M. for making Bebe’s life happier. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the chapel at The Manor located at 2100 Twin Church Road, Florence, SC29501.Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery at a later date.
