Amy Mims Crosland

April 28, 1980 — May 5, 2026

Amy Mims Crosland April 28, 1980 – May 5, 2026 - Florence, SC

Amy Mims Crosland, 46, passed away on May 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength and enduring beauty. A woman of extraordinary heart, Amy spent her life nurturing both the minds of her students and the soil of her cherished gardens.

Born on April 28, 1980, to Kathy and Wendell Mims of Manning, Amy’s life was a testament to resilience. For twenty-six years, she navigated a journey with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and paralysis, a battle she fought with such immense grace and such a vibrant spirit that many never knew the depth of her struggle. She refused to be defined by her illness, choosing instead to define herself through her work with children, her family, and her passions.

In 2006, she married Throop Hinson Crosland, beginning a twenty-year partnership built on mutual devotion. Amy was a dedicated Special Education teacher, a calling that reflected her infinite patience and her belief that every individual, no matter the challenge, has the potential to bloom.

Outside the classroom, Amy was an avid gardener and a master orchid keeper. She found a kindred spirit in the Orchid, admiring the delicate balance and strength required for such exotic flowers to flourish. She also shared a deep affinity for the Lily, whose regal elegance mirrored her own poise. Her greenhouse was her sanctuary, a place where she transformed her long battle into a celebration of life and growth.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Throop Hinson Crosland; her parents, Kathy and Wendell Mims; and her sister, Ashley Mims (Chris) Owens. She was also a loving Aunt/Mimi to her niece, Natalie Owens, and her nephew, Holten Owens. She also leaves behind her cherished companions: her dogs, Pender and Nyx, and her cat, Lizzie. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Katherine and Julian Moore, and her paternal grandparents, Mary and Tommy Mims.

Services: A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Florence, SC at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Church.

Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Oakridge Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC.

A Living Tribute: Amy believed that beauty should be lasting rather than fleeting. In lieu of sending cut flowers to the service, she requested that those who wish to honor her memory plant a flower in their own yard instead. She loved the idea of her friends and family looking out their windows to see a Lily or an Orchid blooming in the sun; a living, breathing reminder that love and grace continue to grow, season after season.
