Alice Josephine Gregg Lawhon

Alice Josephine Gregg Lawhon, 88, of Effingham, and Heritage Home of Florence, passed away on Friday, December 06, 2013, at McLeod Hospice House. Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who found great joy in doing for others.She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and preparing for family gatherings and fellowship with her church family.Her kindness and loving smile will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Josephine was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Zola Gregg. She was a member of Effingham Presbyterian Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 160.She graduated from Montreat Anderson College and taught Math in Florence School District 1 until her retirement in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William “Bill” McAdoo Lawhon; her brothers, Henry, Charles and Boyd Gregg; and her sisters, Alma Scott, Janie Hudson and Ruth Leavitt. Surviving are her daughters, Martha L. Branton of Effingham and Janice L. (Jack) Zeigler of Fayetteville, NC; her grandchildren, Frank M. (Angela) Branton, III of Florence, Mary Alice (Michael) Faulkenberry of Florence, Lauren Rebecca Zeigler of Raleigh, NC, and Jack C. Zeigler, III of Raleigh, NC; her great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Faulkenberry, William Andrew Faulkenberry and Tyler MacRoy Branton, all of Florence; her sister, Mary Jean Weatherly, and her brother, Arthur Gregg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the Effingham Presbyterian Church.Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E.
