ALFRED VERNON BENTON, SR. FLORENCE, SC Alfred Vernon Benton, Sr., 77, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the McLeod Hospice House. He was born in Florence, SC a son of the late Trouldon Lee Benton, Sr. and Lillie Mae Broach Benton.He graduated from McClenaghan High School and retired as a supervisor at DuPont in 1993 after 33 years of service.He was a US Navy veteran, a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and a member of the Flintville Masonic Lodge #158. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Gilbert Lee Benton. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lois McLaughlin Benton of Florence; sons, Alfred Vernon (Kim) Benton, Jr. of Florence and Robbie Lee (Lori) Benton of Effingham; daughter, Robin Benton (Mike) Richardson of Pamplico, SC; brother, Troulden Lee Benton, Jr. of Florence; sister, Harriett B. McElveen of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Tyler Benton, Brooks Benton, Brooke Moore, Tripp Moore, Ryan Smith, Logan Benton, Manning Richardson, Mike Richardson, Jr. and Michelle Dore and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Evergreen Baptist Church prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at Evergreen Baptist Church.Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
