James H. "Red" Holladay Jr.

September 10, 1939 - February 26, 2022

James H. “Red” Holladay, Jr. fought the good fight and won. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving wife, Helen, and two dogs. Red was born on September 10, 1939, to James and Gladys Holladay. He attended technical college in Florence and served six years in the National Guard. He was a jack of all trades. Throughout his life he tried out several different careers from building, concrete work, to finally opening his own business with Helen, Nature’s Alternative Herbs. Red loved life and he definitely lived it. He traveled the world with Helen. He loved hunting and fishing with friends and family. He also loved attending Florence Baptist Temple. The music and growing in the Lord were his passions. The greatest joys in his life, besides cracking jokes, were his family and his dogs. Red is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Helen Gregg Holladay; their daughters, Anna (Chris) Harris and Morgan Holladay; his son, Jimmy (Terry) Holladay and grandson, William Holladay; brothers, Charlton (Libby) Holladay and Bill (Ann) Holladay; and sisters; Patsy (Jim) Allen and Ann (Jimmy) Lock. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Florence Baptist Temple. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Florence Area Humane Society, P. O. Box 4808, Florence, SC 29502 or to Darlington County Humane Society, 1705 Adoption Way, Darlington, SC 29532. Please sign the tribute wall for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com
