James G. Holliday, 81, of Timmonsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 06, 2013 after an illness. Mr. Holliday was born in Pamplico, SC a son of the late John Mayo Holliday and Blanch Taylor Holliday McWhite.He was a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy in Bamberg, SC and a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.He was a Lieutenant of the United States Air Force, a member of the First Baptist Church in Timmonsville and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Mayo Holliday, Jr. and Walter Cobb Holliday and his canine companion, Mr. Syd. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Shirley Ward Holliday of Timmonsville; son, James Gressette (Amanda) Holliday, Jr. of Charleston; daughters, Dianne H. (Tony) Whitlock of Lake City and Gwendolyn H. (Bill) Pruett of Columbia; step-son, Steven Harris of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter, Debbie (Lee) Herring of Florence; grandchildren, that affectionately called him “Big Daddy”, Ian Whitlock of Lake City, Claire Pruett of Columbia and Talia Holliday of Charleston; step-grandchildren, Lindsey Herring of Florence and Walker Pruett of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Harold Taylor Holliday of Cheraw and a half-brother, Edwin Alexander McWhite of Florence. Memorials may be made to the Florence Area Humane Society, PO Box 4808, Florence, SC29502, to First Baptist Church in Timmonsville, 151 W. Byrd Street, Timmonsville, SC29161 or to a charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the home of his daughter, Dianne Whitlock, 111 Bowen Street, Lake City. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Hyman directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family wishes to express a special thank you to all of Ahava Hospice that assisted them especially Brittney Inbody, Karen Ham, and Diane Foxworth.
